What is a hybrid battery state-of-health check?
State of health, often shortened to SoH, describes how much usable capacity a battery has left compared with when it was new. A battery in good condition holds charge well and its cells stay balanced. As a battery ages, capacity can drop and weaker cells may show up.
A check reads battery data from the car and looks at how the cells and the system are performing. It helps owners and buyers understand the condition of the battery. Results depend on the model and what data the car makes available.
Why does a hybrid battery cooling fan need cleaning?
Many hybrids use a fan to draw cabin air across the high-voltage battery to keep it cool. The air intake and fan can collect dust and fibres over time. If airflow is restricted, the battery may run warmer than it should.
Cleaning the fan and its air path is a basic maintenance task on suitable models. If a fan fault code or a battery temperature warning has appeared, we check that as well.
How does a hybrid or EV pre-purchase inspection work?
It follows the same idea as a standard inspection, with extra checks for the high-voltage side. Before you commit to a used hybrid or EV, you want to know the condition of the battery and the systems around it.
- We check the general condition of the car, as for any used car inspection.
- We scan for stored fault codes across the systems.
- We check the high-voltage battery data and state of health where the car allows it.
- We inspect the cooling arrangement and signs of past issues.
- We give you a clear summary of findings so you can negotiate or walk away.

What should I watch for on a hybrid or EV?
| What you notice | Possible area | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| Reduced electric range or fuel economy | Battery capacity, cooling, tyres | Battery data, fan and air path, tyre condition |
| Hybrid system warning light | Battery, inverter, sensors | Stored codes and live data |
| Fan noise from the rear seat area | Battery cooling fan or air path | Fan operation and cleanliness |
| Engine starting more often than before | Battery state, system settings | Battery data and system status |
These are general pointers only, and the cause varies by model and fault.
Is it safe to work on a hybrid or EV?
High-voltage systems need proper procedures, and owners should never open orange high-voltage cabling or battery covers themselves. If a hybrid or EV warning light comes on, or you notice a burning smell or unusual heat, stop safely, switch the car off and call for advice.
When you bring a car in, we tell you what we can check and what, if anything, would need a specialist.
Where can I get my hybrid or EV checked?
We are at 143 Bukit Timah Road, Newton Circus, inside the Shell station. Send your model and year through the contact page so we can tell you what we can check on your car.
Questions owners ask
Which hybrid and EV models can you check?
It depends on the model and what data the car provides. Send us the make, model and year on WhatsApp and we will tell you what we can check before you bring the car in.
How much is a battery state-of-health check?
We do not state prices on this page. Ask us on WhatsApp for the arrangement for your model. For any repair, the quote follows inspection and is agreed with you before work starts.
Will the check tell me exactly how long the battery will last?
No. It shows the battery's present condition, not an exact lifespan. Age, use and climate all affect how a battery ages, so we explain the result in context rather than predicting a number of years.
Should I get a hybrid inspected before buying?
It is a sensible step, especially for a used car, because the battery is a major part of the car's value. An inspection helps you understand its condition before you commit.
