Brake and Suspension Repair in Singapore

Brake and suspension faults usually show up as noise, vibration, a soft pedal or a car that pulls to one side. We inspect pads, discs, fluid, links and mounts, explain what is worn and how urgent it is, and quote the repair. You approve it before work starts.

How do I know when my brakes need attention?

Brake pads wear down gradually as friction material is used up. Common signs are squealing, a grinding sound, a longer stopping distance, a vibrating pedal or a brake warning on the dash.

If the brakes feel soft, the pedal sinks, or the car pulls to one side when you brake, do not keep driving normally. Slow down, avoid heavy traffic, and get the car checked as soon as possible. If the brakes feel unsafe, stop safely and ask for help.

What do you check on a brake inspection?

  1. We remove the wheels and look at pad thickness and wear pattern.
  2. We check the discs for ridges, cracks, warping or heavy corrosion.
  3. We inspect calipers, brake hoses and lines for leaks or sticking.
  4. We check the brake fluid level and condition.
  5. We explain which items are fine, which are close to their limit and which need work now.
  6. We quote the repair, and you approve it before we start.

Why does my car knock or feel loose over bumps?

Knocking or clunking over bumps is often caused by worn suspension parts such as stabiliser links, control arm bushes, top mounts or shock absorbers. Over time, rubber bushes harden and joints develop play.

A loose or floaty feel, uneven tyre wear or a steering wheel that is off-centre can also point to suspension or alignment issues. We inspect the parts that move and check for play before suggesting a repair.

Tyre condition matters here too. Uneven wear on the edges of a tyre often tells us something about alignment or worn joints, so we look at the tyres as part of the same check.

What do brake and suspension symptoms usually mean?

SymptomPossible areaWhat we check
Squealing when brakingWorn pads, glazed surfacePad thickness, disc surface
Steering wheel shakes when brakingDisc condition, wheel or tyre issueDisc runout and thickness, wheels
Soft or sinking pedalFluid, leak, hydraulic faultFluid level, hoses, calipers, master cylinder
Clunk over bumpsLinks, bushes, mountsJoints and bushes for play
Car pulls to one sideAlignment, tyres, brake dragTyre wear, alignment, caliper movement

This is a general guide. The cause varies by model and fault.

Is it safe to wait on a worn suspension part?

It depends on the part. Some wear is minor and can be monitored, while a worn ball joint or damaged steering component is a safety concern. We tell you which category each finding falls into so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

Brake and suspension checks are also useful during a regular European car service.

Where do I take my car for a brake check?

Our workshop is at 143 Bukit Timah Road, Newton Circus, inside the Shell station. Message us through the contact page and describe the noise or symptom, and we will let you know how to arrange an inspection.

Questions owners ask

How much do new brake pads cost?

It depends on the car and whether discs also need work, so we do not state a number before seeing it. After inspection we give you a quote, and you agree to it before any work begins.

Do I need to change pads and discs together?

Not always. If the discs are still within their limits and in good condition, pads alone may be enough. If the discs are worn, scored or warped, replacing both is often sensible. We show you what we see and explain the options.

Why does my steering wheel shake when I brake?

A shaking steering wheel under braking is often linked to disc condition, but wheel balance, tyres or worn suspension parts can also play a part. We inspect before recommending any parts.

Can I keep driving with a clunking noise?

A mild clunk may be a worn bush or link, but it can also be a more serious joint. If the steering or braking feels different, stop driving and have it checked. Otherwise book an inspection soon.
